It was all about heat and humidity last weekend and, nonetheless, Crankenstein was burning up their amps inside The Avenue Café in Black Rock on Saturday, August 13th.     Crankenstein is a band not for the faint at heart.  If you're in the mood for a head-banging, slamming in a mosh pit, gimee a shot of Jack Daniels kind of night, then this band's for you!

Crankenstein is made up of a formidable group of well-known musicians that have been on the band circuit for some time.  On vocals is Junior Rivera, also of Bad Mojo.   Billy Denigris, one of the original members of the Drunken Bozos, as well as Four Sticks, stands out on bass.   On guitar, Chet Conboni, of World Pain and formerly of Mental Elvis.  Chet is also well known on the open jam circuit.   Vic Chiappetta, also of Bad Mojo, is on drums.

Comparatively speaking, I can think of a few cover bands on the circuit that cover this area of music, but I don't think that the others are as quite as LOUD as Crankenstein!  No doubt, they dusted off their albums to pull a classic set list together which includes lots of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Dio.

The band, musically, is tight.   I was privy to the second set and notably, there were some grinding guitars on "Ides of March/Rat's Child".  Crankenstein also had a unique combination of tunes - a Jeff Beck cover, "Blue Wind" that rolled right into "Train Kept a Rollin'", by Aerosmith.   Chiapettea's drum solo got the applause from their audience on their version of a classic Sabbath tune, "Rat Salad".  The crowd went wild and began chanting during the intro to "TNT" by AC/DC.   Make no mistake about it, this band is loud and makes no apology for it.  Dust off your leathers (did we ever actually put them away?!!), because metal is BACK!

Crankenstein is currently in the process of booking some gigs at local clubs and we will have them posted on the gig lister when they are scheduled.
