MUSIC! (Music, Music?) You can play it, sing it, hum it, whistle it, write it, dance to it, sit and listen to it, eat to it, fall asleep to it, wake up to it, exercise to it, work to it, ride to it, smile to it, cry to it, worship to it, love to it, hate it (but not hate to it), and certainly always love it. And CT, that varietuginous (This writer gets paid a bonus for patentable word invention) state, better know as the little empire state has got a whole, whole lot of it. We are not and don?t have a New York City or Los Angeles or Nashville but then again we don?t want have or be those musical so called capitals. So what have we got ? where to begin.
Well, there is show music, private music, symphonic music, cacophonic music, rock (and roll) music, rhythm and soul music, gospel music, liturgical music, children?s music, adult (and not so) contemporary music, country music, chamber music, folk music (ALL music is folk music ? I never did hear a horse sing). So here are some places and times to keep time in Connecticut.
Hit the big cities, Hartford or New Haven, and see a Broadway show at the Bushnell or Shubert. Travel from town to town across the state to a place like Washington Depot in rural Litchfield County and hear a local act at the G.W. Tavern. Go to Foxwoods or Mohegan and hear the stars like John Pizzerelli or Aerosmith. Visit the Stoney Creek Puppet Theatre in Branford or the Westport Country Playhouse where programs delightfully combine theatre and music. Wander down to Norwalk?s SoNo and stop in at a really hip restaurant to sample a local band (to say nothing of the food!) Bring your guitar to New Haven?s Café Nine on a Sunday night and sit in with the blues to your heart?s content.
