Robbing Opie
- Jam Robbing Opie is
a four piece jam
band which came
together a few
years ago at the
University of
New Haven in
West Haven,
Connecticut. Its
members include
lead
guitarist/lead
vocalist Rob
Martineau, bass
guitarist/background
vocalist Jeff
Maleri,
drummer/percussionist
Jay Uth, and
Matt Nemeth on
sax, and
background
vocals. Ideas
for the band
were initially
formed in the
fall of 2002,
when Rob
introduced his
original
material to Jay
and Jeff. With
the addition of
Matt 8 months
later, the group
officially
became Robbing
Opie. The band's
diverse musical
influences are
rooted in blues,
jazz, funk,
classical, and
reggae, lending
a unique,
improvisational
sound to their
music, a quality
that continues
to enhance the
solidarity of
the band's most
recent on-stage
